This section of the Readme describes component-related installation issues.
When installing Impromptu in a workstation install, ensure that Architect is not selected as part of the installation. Architect is not supported as a workstation installation and must be fully installed locally with associated 3rd party software such as ObjectStore.
The Cognos Diagnostic Utility (CDU, formerly called Cognos Support Accelerator) has not been tested on AIX 5.3 and is not currently supported on that platform.
If you try to run that version, the following error message may appear:
Unable to open file /usr/MOTVdea/dea.pid
In the Cognos Web Services SDK Installation Guide, information about deploying your IBM WebSphere files is incorrect. The fourth step in the procedure should read as follows:
Deploy the files created for your application server, which are currently in the locations specified in Configuration Manager:
The Cognos Query Administration tool is associated with only one Cognos Query server group.
We recommend that you install an additional instance of the Cognos Query Administration tool for each Cognos Query server group that you create.
In a default installation of PowerPlay Enterprise Server, when a gateway and dispatcher are installed on the same machine, the Temporary File Access property is set to Shared Temp by default. This means that the gateway and the dispatcher share the same PPWB_DIR directory.
Any mirrored server or cube in this configuration must also share the same PPWB_DIR directory. PPWB_DIR for both servers must point to the same disk location. In certain Web-based deployments, your Web server may not be able to access a shared drive (shared between Web servers and dispatchers) directly. In this situation, you can set the Temporary File Access property to CGI Temp or Dispatcher Temp instead of the default Shared Temp. This may require additional steps in a Windows 2000 installation.
For more information about mirroring in a Windows 2000 environment, see Appendix C: Managing Temporary Files in the PowerPlay Enterprise Server Guide.
PowerPlay Client can be installed by an administrator on a Windows 2000 Computer. If another user signs on, and has only read-only privileges, their abilities in the following areas will be limited. For example, restricted users by default are not allowed to install or uninstall products. If a user attempts to uninstall Cognos products, an error message states that they require administrative privileges.
By default, the cognos.ini file is created in the ..\Cognos directory. If the user does not have privileges to write to this location, any application that updates this file will not be able to save changes.
PowerPlay client does not currently write any entries to this file at run time.
The cern.ini file is created during the install and resides in the ..\Cognos\cern\bin directory. If the user does not have write privileges to save this file, or performs any action that updates this file, the action will fail.
PowerPlay client does not currently write any entries to this file at run time.
A user with read-only privileges can start the Configuration Manager and modify any of the component properties that a user with administrative privileges can modify, but will encounter errors when the changes are applied.
Note: Changed values in Configuration Manager need not necessarily be applied; the user may want to save a CCS file for use on another machine, based on values that are changed, but not applied, in the current Configuration Manager session.
